•	Window Shop! – hunt for Sales and discounted items. Look for suppliers that would best fit your budget. Try to bargain. You can also go for wholesalers when you need to buy in bulk.
•	Talk it out – talk to your contractor before the renovation starts. Plan the project together so you can discuss about the best way for you to save time and money.
•	Use a little help – If you know some of the work, you can do it yourself, depending on your skill. You can also ask the help of your friends and relatives to help you. This way you’d cut off some of the bills.

When planning to add life and start a decorating project for your room, the first thing to do is clean it up, remove the cobwebs and dusts. Once clean, you can start redecorating by painting the walls with cool and light colors that would be soothing to the eyes. Hanging curtains or blinds that match or complement the color of your bedroom will create a cozy atmosphere. The arrangement of your bed and other furniture inside the room should be comfortable and not cluttered. In choosing bedroom lights, preference should be given to softer shades to give off a relaxing ambiance.

There are three types of solar water heaters that can be used for either residential or large commercial or business installations. Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors are the most expensive but are exceptionally efficient at gathering and transferring heat to your home because of its unique tube design. Flat Plate Solar Collectors are less expensive but not as effective as the evacuated tube because it needs the sun to be directly overhead to work efficiently. Unglazed Solar Collectors were designed for Solar Pool Heating and cost a lot less than the other two. It is made of an elastic tube that can be rolled out and attached directly to a roof, fence, or the ground.

It is a common belief that remodeling is a costly idea, but, there are ways wherein you can change the appearance of your home using a small budget. Repainting both the inside and outside areas of your house will cheer it up and create a new look for your house. This method will not cause a big dent on your pocket. Also a rearrangement of your furniture will not only give rise to a different style but will also open you up to the possibility of creating more space. Adding windows and skylights will give you more light and brighten up your home.

A well designed home has at least two exits that allows escape from the structure should an emergency strike such as a fire. No other emergency can be as damaging as a fire for it takes everything away with it that can burn, sadly even lives. Properly placed smoke detectors and extinguishers can mean the difference between life and death in times of an emergency and both are quite inexpensive to install and maintain. Outside sleeping areas, a quality smoke detector can provide ample warning and give you and your family enough time to exit the structure way before it becomes impossible to do so. The best case scenario is for every room in the house to have a fire extinguisher classified as Type ABC (for all types of fires paper, combustible liquids and electrical fires) and smoke detector that is classified as Class A (with a false alarm switch to turn off nuisance alarms preventing alarming everybody of the burning food on the stove). Practicing and having a fire drill is also recommended with each and every house member having their own role and everybody knows the escape route to maximize the survivability of everybody in case one is incapacitated. Some forward thinking and planning goes a long way which could mean the differenced between life and death for everybody in your household.

There are a lot of timber frames that have been treated with wood preservative to maintain them and save them from the ravenous termites that lives everywhere. These products though quite harmless and inert as long as they stay in the ceiling, contain harmful chemicals that may leach into the home releasing toxic substances such as cyanide and other potent pesticides that can kill not only termites but people as well.
If you have recently had your home renovated and the contractor used cheap lumber, they are most likely to have been treated with wood preservative so observe the drying times to prevent them from releasing toxic fumes into the cracks of the ceiling. They dry fairly quickly and smell bad not because of their harmful potential but to give clues as to their presence. Pressure treated lumber is best for they have been pressure treated and dried properly assuring any chemicals remain intact within the roof members.

Many homes have neglected attic spaces that may need some cleaning from time to time, especially if you have rodent problems or do get quite a lot of dust. Vacuuming the crawlspace with your shop-vac if you have light dust prevents the dust from getting through the cracks and crevices that may appear in the ceiling, falling on your bedding and other belongings. For more serious dust problems, you may want to consider a commercial cleaner for they have more powerful yet robust equipment that can deal with industrial levels of dust without burning out prematurely.
For rodent infestation, the feces and urine may harbor harmful fungi or bacteria so get licensed peopel to dot he clean up. You may also wish to get the pest control if any live nests are found to minimize damage and cut off the problems they may cause in the future. Clean clutter to minimize fire hazards that is due to accumulated flammable materials you may have stuck in there all through the years.

Developers and construction firms are getting a kick out of this one, wood is making a comeback as the cheaper material of choice compared to steel and concrete in today’s recession wrecked world. Skills that have long been forgotten are now useful again with the use of wood on a maximum of five stories which is the restrictions set by the many various authorities if timber is used as framing material.
Why timber, it seems our forests have recovered enough vitality and with the maturity of the many cultivated forests that were planted a few years back, they are now being called upon to serve mankind, leaving the many virgin forest’s alone to go on their business.
Is wood a wise idea? It sure is and it has been known for thousands of years that wood is more flexible than steel or concrete, well suited for areas like California which are prone to earthquakes and other extreme weather. Treated right they can withstand the test of time as the many hundred year old structures have been showing us, relics of the past when wood was the only viable material for construction.
